Annual lectures have become key annual events and have contributed to Irish African dialogue and to the education of mixed African and Irish audience. Lectures also have presented an image of Africa by Africans not often heard in mainstream Irish debates and featured prominent African speakers. The Lectures are organised on a theme related to southern perspective in development education. Activities are build on the success of the annual public lecture featuring prominent African speakers to contribute to Irish African dialogue through Africans on topics that are not often heard in mainstream Irish debates increased development of media and NGO events around the Annual Lecture.

The Guest Speaker for the lecture this year was Professor Augustus Nuwagaba, Ugandan Economist and Academic. The respondent at the lecture was Ms. Olive Towey, Acting Head of International Advocacy, Concern Worldwide and it was Chaired by Ms. Olive Moore, Policy Officer, Trocaire.
Bio of the Guest Speaker:
Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba (PhD) a lecture at Makerere University and a consultant with REEV Consult International. Based in Uganda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba PhD is Ugandan economist and academic. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Social Work & Social Administration, at Makerere University, the oldest university in Uganda. Dr. Augustus obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA.Econ) degree from Makerere University in 1989, he also obtained his Master of Science in Economics (MSc) degree from London School of Economics and the field of specialization for his doctorate degree was Poverty Eradication from Makerere.

Bio of the respondent speaker:
Ms. Olive Moore is the Acting Head of International Advocacy, Concern Worldwide. After 9 years working in the banking sector in London, I returned to Ireland in 2004, completed a course in Peace Studies and joined Concern. I worked initially in the External Relations department on a Communications initiative – looking at ways of building more strategic engagement between the NGO sector and the media. This resulted in the creation of a new organization called Connect World. Laterally, I became involved in policy & advocacy work focusing in particular on EU Development policy and Aid Effectiveness. She is currently Acting Head of International Advocacy, Chair of Eurostep – a Brussels based policy network - and Chair of the Advocacy Group of Alliance2015 – a strategic partnership of 7 European NGOs working together in our programme countries and at EU level.
