Working With The Media


One of the Africa Centre's Strategic Aims is to 'engage the media in mobilizing informed African voices in Ireland when reporting on African issues, based on the power of the media as a key influence on development issues'.

To achieve this ambition the Africa Centre in collaboration with DTALK provide a tailor made course - Working With The Media.

The aim of the course is to enable participants to understand how the media works and to feel comfortable, confident and empowered in their handling of the media.

Course Content

•    Press release skills
o    Getting the most from the Media
o    What makes a ‘story’ worthy for news?
o    Editorial conference
o    Review and writing press release

•    The Radio Interview
o    What makes a good interview?
o    Conducting and reviewing interviews
o    Responding to interview requests
o    A radio is not a TV interview with pictures added. How they differ.
